Chapter: Documents

File type

All documents in Legal Notes are classified by a description, analagous to the name of the file in which they would be placed in a paper system.

Pre defined file types
The designers use the following default descriptions. They are set by the user in the System database:
CORRESPONDENCE
COURT DOCUMENTS

EVIDENCE
LAW
OTHER DOCUMENTS

User defined file types by Matter
In the Matter Record, you can specify one or more file types that are unique to the matter concerned. They will be arrayed and presented to the user when creating a document, in addition to the standard file types specified in Lookup.nsf.

If you categorise a document, the category will be shown as a file type. For an example click here:Database 'Legal Notes', View 'Main', Document 'Structure', Anchor 'FileType example'

Workflow File Types
IN PROGRESS
ON HOLD

Documents that are have not been finalised (other than documents On hold) are classified under the File Type In progress. Documents that that are On hold are filed under the heading of that description to distinguish them from other in progress documents

Tasks
Tasks are treated as a separate File Type for the purposes of associating them with the matter to which they relate. With the exception of Tasks, documents are only filed under a static (File type) description once they have been finalised.
